development. - Communication & Building Self-Esteem
The purpose of this class is to help parents learn effective communication skills to build a stronger and
healthier relationship with their children and will explain the parent’s role in the foundation of personal
values. - Consequences vs. Discipline
This class teaches parents how to use consequences as a means to encourage children and use teachable
moments to build healthy parent-child relationships. - Co-parenting
This class covers what a co-parenting relationship is and is not, how to communicate in a co-parenting
relationship including active listening, restructuring ways of decision-making, what children need to hear and
do not need to hear, how to get along with the other parent and setting boundaries with the other parent,
parenting plans for joint decision-making and problem-solving, and what to do if the other parent won’t co-parent.
The class also covers how to co-parent with an ex, a step-parent to the children, and with other family
members.
How do I receive credit for the class?
After you attend all 4 classes in the series, you will receive a “graduation” certificate. This certificate can be
given to the referring agency as proof of completion. We can also submit status letters.
What happens if I miss a class?
All 4 classes are required for the certificate. If you miss a class, you may take just that class the next time the
program is offered. Call and register before the next session starts to guarantee a spot in the class you need.
Each series of classes is offered over four consecutive Tuesday evenings at the Midland office. Free childcare is available for children two years and older, depending on the need.
